We picked up a few goodies in the last couple months (and you thought blogs were supposed to provide up-to-the-minute information) and I thought I’d share.

Coffee Table

It’s an imitation of a Noguchi Coffee Table that we found at one of our favorite stores on the Saint Paul Retro Loop, Up Six Vintage.

I actually like the shape of the table better than the Noguchi table. Best guess is our table is a one-of-a-kind homemade table from decades ago.

Shag Rug

The rug was a craigslist find from a year or so ago. However, Mary just brought it to the super-rug-cleaner-people and now it’s super clean and I’m super grateful.

TV Stand

In the background of the coffee table picture, you can see our new TV stand. Mary found it on craigslist for a whopping $10. This was a steal as it’s a very well constructed, solid-wood, danish table.

I proceeded to cut down the legs and made a couple alterations in order to make it work for our TV stand. I kind of felt bad doing so as it was a really nice table to begin. However, it definitely beats the Circuit-City special that formerly held up the TV.

Here’s the coffee table from the other side. I think it works in the room. We like it.

Chuck Close MIA

While we’re talking about the Minneapolis Institue of Art (MIA).

If you live in the Twin Cities and haven’t seen the Chuck Close Painting at the MIA you have to go. This is a great photo (thanks Bl@ck Coffee), but this is something you need to see in person.

The detail of the painting up close is amazing. The price is right too. . .as the MIA is free. Check it out and let me know when you do as I’ll go with.

I’ve never really understood the term “futuristic design.” However it seems to be how people design the Saarinen’s airport design.

Regardless of what you call it, I’d love to have a layover in this airport.

One of the highlights of the Saarinen exhibit were the pics of Christ Lutheran Church right here in Minneapolis.

Eero’s my hero

Ok. Eero Saarinen isn’t really my hero but he is pretty cool and so is rhyming. Reading through the City Pages, which named “Eero Saarinen: Shaping the Future” the Best Museum Exhibit, reminded me how disappointed I was in myself by not attending this exhibit at the Walker.

Mary and I did catch the exhibit at the MIA. It was fantastic.

Best Coffee Shop Food Ever

I’ve spent a good amount of time in Saint Paul coffee shops in the last couple months and Cosmic Coffee has, hands down, the best menu ever. Corn dogs, pizza rolls, burritos and PB and J. . . what could better compliment your mocha, latte or cappuccino?

O Christmas Tree

As we’re having a few friends over for the big game today and since it’s officially February, it seemed like about time to take down the Christmas Tree.

As it’s usually a source of conversation, I thought I’d put a picture on the blog for your viewing pleasure.

You’re probably wondering, where can I get one of those awesome “trees”? Well, you’re not going to find one of these babies in Walmart or Target. This, friends, is a Terry T. original design and creation and you’re looking at the only one in the world.

Before seeing the end product, some people were telling me that rope lights aren’t as cool as they used to be. However, I think I changed some minds after they saw how well they danced against the minimal, modern design of my creation.

Signs, Signs, everywhere there’s signs . . .

Everyone loves pictures. Check out this one from our trip to Arizona. Unlike how the song goes, in this case, the sign was definitely NOT “blocking up the scenery” or “breaking up my mind”.

Most people would be enthralled by the awesome natural scenic beauty of the surroundings. . . how the lake meets the mountains and the desert earth meets the perfect blue sky. I was too amazed by all this, but I was probably more enthralled with the ultra-cool, retro National Forest Signs throughout the park. The wood, the shape, the font, the colors . . I’m speechless.

Retro National Forest Signs might be my new obsession and judging by what I found on Flickr, I might not be alone:

Apache Junction what’s your function?

Mary and I had an great time visiting my parents in Arizona. We hiked, we went to an awesome community spaghetti feed, we played a high stakes dice game, we ate, we ran, we laughed, we had cocktails in the hot-tub, we went to Slumdog Millionaire and we toured Phoenix and Scottsdale. It was a great time, I can’t wait for retirement.
